Today saw the last day of this year’s highly successful West End Christmas Week and it was great to see the large turnout of pupils, teachers, parents and local residents at the Blackness Primary School Christmas Fair this morning – see picture (right).

And … after last night’s superb West End Christmas Lights Switch On at Seabraes, earlier tonight, alongside Ann Prescott of West End Community Council, my ward colleague Richard McCready and the residents (and particularly the children!) of West Port, Palais Court and South Tay Street, we switched on the West Port Christmas Lights!

As part of West End Christmas Week, this afternoon around 25 of us had a superb historical walk round parts of the West End with Professor Charles McKean of the University of Dundee. Here’s a couple of photos from a hugely interesting and enjoyable walk!

Back in June, I mentioned that I had attended the Dundee Russian School’s Day of Russian Culture at Harris Academy. The school, an excellent initiative taking place at the school on Saturdays, has been awarded £6 500 Big Lottery funding to purchase teaching materials and computer equipment to assist the young people who attend the Russian School [...]

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of chairing the latest West End Christmas Week committee meeting at the West End community facility at the Vine. It was a hugely productive meeting and great progress is being made with West End Christmas Week 2011 – our 11th year.
