West End Christmas Fortnight 2020! #dundeewestend

Tomorrow night, we are holding a West End Christmas Fortnight Zoom meeting to have some informal discussion about how this year’s Christmas Fortnight might look given the challenging world 2020 has proved to be.

This is the 20th anniversary of the Christmas Fortnight so, although it will undoubtedly look rather different to the last 19, we are keen to make sure we still celebrate Christmas in the West End and our wonderful shops, schools and community!

If you would like to take part in the Zoom meeting or would like to know more, please e-mail us at christmas2020@frasermacpherson.org.uk – many thanks!

Lynsey wins window spotting competition!

Earlier today, Blackness Primary School pupil Lynsey Mitchell age 5 received her prize from the Friends of the University of Dundee Botanic Garden and the West End Christmas Committee as she emerged as winner of a competition run by the Christmas Fortnight in the run up to the festive season.

All local school children from the four West End Primary Schools – Victoria Park, St Joseph’s Ancrum Road and Blackness – and local children who attend other primary schools – were all invited to participate in a window spotting competition around the Perth Road district shopping area.   They were tasked with following a trail of clues in shop front window displays to spell the word “SANTA”, and from the 50+ correct entries, Lynsey’s emerged out the hat as the winner!

Lynsey has won a year’s Family Membership of the University of Dundee Botanic Garden that was presented to her by Dr Mark McGilchrist, Chair of the Friends of the University of Dundee Botanic Garden, and also a gift voucher from the West End Christmas Committee that I presented – see photo (below) of (from left) Mark, Lynsey and myself :

The winners will be publicly announced later this week once we have notified them – and many thanks to the hundreds of people who participated!

The Rosebud is winner of the public vote for the best dressed Christmas shop window in the West End and here’s Dilly Milne of the Rosebud outside the shop earlier today with her winner’s certificate.   The Rosebud’s shop window is beautifully festive so a very worthy winner!
