The Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee – a history

On Wednesday 8th February, Toma Pustelnikovaite will be speaking at the Abertay Historical Society’s February meeting – “Connecting past, present and future: an exploration of how The Nine Incorporated Trades of Dundee engages with its history.”

It takes place in Lecture Theatre 2, Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee at 6.30pm (refreshments available from 6pm).

It is free to members to attend. Donations will be requested from non-members.

Reflections on Churchill and Dundee: 100 years after Defeat

Abertay Historical Society is hosting a talk on “Reflections on Churchill and Dundee: 100 years after Defeat” on Wednesday 9th November at 6.30pm at the Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee.

Speakers are Kenneth Baxter, Billy Kenefick and Jim Tomlinson.

Dundee’s Literary Suburbia: 
Newport and its connection with the People’s Friend, 1870-1920

Charlotte Lauder of the University of Strathclyde will speak about the political, journalistic and cultural connections between the People’s Friend magazine and Newport-on-Tay in late nineteenth century.
 
All welcome – refreshments available from 6pm.

Abertay Historical Society event

Two centuries of appreciation and modification: 
What might the future hold for the Tay?
 
This Wednesday – 8th January – from 2.15pm to 3.30pm, Professor Rob Duck, Emeritus Professor of Geography and Environmental Science, School of Social Sciences at the University of Dundee, will deliver this address as part of Abertay Historical Society’s contribution to the city’s afternoon lecture series.
 
This talk will look at some of the impacts of human intervention at the River Tay over the past 200 years and how climate change might affect sea levels.
 
The talk will take place in the D’Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre in the Tower Building at the University of Dundee, admission is £2 and all are welcome.
